If you miss the deadline for filing your GSTR you will have to pay the penalty on the tax payable and a general penalty for late filing. The late charge is applicable for Central Goods and Services Tax (CGST) and State Goods and Services Tax (SGST) at Rs 100 each per day of the delay.

That means, for every day of delay you can end up paying Rs 200 per day if you have to file both SGST and CGST returns. IGST, however, does not attract a late fee. The highest amount of fine for the late fee can go up to Rs 5000.

You will also need to pay interest at 18% p.a. on the GST amount you fail to deposit due to delayed filing.
